Registering for races.
Registration has opened for several of the races on our fall schedule. It is very important for me to get an accurate number of who will be participating in each race.
There are several reasons that I need an accurate count.
I will post a link on the Meet Schedule page to confirm your runners participation i each race. Please click on the link button with your availability for the races as I post them. I will also list all runners confirmed for each race on the Meet Schedule page so you can see if I have your runner in the meet and which race they will run at the meet. If you do not register for a race, your runner will not be entered and changes will not be made on race day.
I will leave each registration link up until the payment is sent for each race. Once payment is sent no further race changes will be made.
Thanks,
Coach Conroy
There are several reasons that I need an accurate count.
- The meet directors set aside a certain number of spaces for each race. Once that number is met, they close the registration and no more schools may enter the meet. As an example, we typically have 100+ runners on our team. Several of the other teams (Goshen, Dunn, Stopher, Tully, Harmony) also carry 100+ runners on their teams. If all of the larger teams are entering their entire rosters, this takes up the entire race and smaller teams cannot enter the races. This limits the competition that we will see during the season. I know our runners get tired of seeing the same top teams at every race, and it is nice to see a lot of teams in each race.
- The timers and score keepers at each race must prepare and provide a number or timing chip for each runner entered into each meet. Some of the numbers are disposable and the timer must prepare each bib by printing and hand sticking the labels onto each bib. Some of the numbers must be returned to the timers. Packaging and sending out numbers that are not used adds wear and tear to the numbers and increases the chances of numbers not being returned, which the team must pay for at a fee of $10-15 per number not returned.
- In the past we have averaged about 50% team participation in races. This leaves 50 extra numbers that must be sorted through before each race. The more number bibs that are on the table, the more mistakes happen. Every race we have had runners participate with a wrong number. When you are at a race and you don't see me or can't find me in the field it is usually because I am in the scorer's trailer trying to fix number mistakes.
- Lastly, cost. Meet directors are charged for every runner that enters the race, and more and more races are moving away from the team entry method and charging us per runner that we enter so that they do not lose money on teams over entering runners who will not show up. When we register runners who do not show up to the races, the meet organizers lose money on those runners and we are losing money as a team that could be used elsewhere during the season.

Cross Country and Running Club have close to the same number of races. Why is there a price difference in the two programs?
If you have a runner that participates in both Cross Country and Running Club you have probably noticed that there is a price difference in the two programs. During Cross Country season we provide an additional spirit wear item, the team sweatshirt, and the cost of entering meets is much higher. Almost all of the Cross Country meets charge a per runner entry fee of $3 to $6 to register to run. This translates to several hundred dollars per meet that we run to enter.
During the spring Running Club season the distance races that we enter charge a team entry fee. We pay one price for all 4 races of the distance series that is less than one Cross Country race, then the 4 Track and Field races also charge one fee for the boys team and one fee for the girls team.
The track and field races have begun charging per runner. So the entry fees are more in line with Fall Cross Country prices. Please give me an accurate availability for each Track and Field race.
